Osteopaths' communication Audit (N = 200) 1998

 

This is an audit which Andrew Gilmour carried out whilst working at Gilmour Piper in 1998.
 
It was a retrospective audit of records and letters.
The purpose of this audit was to determine the extent of communication by Osteopaths with other disciplines and the extent of referral out of the practice.
  • Letters were written to GP's in 41% of cases
  • Letters to Orthopaedic Surgeons/Spinal Surgeon 12%
  • Letter to Consultant Rheumatologist 3%
  • Concerning medico-legal issues 3%
  • Podiatry 2%
  • Employers 1%

Patients referred out of Practice.

  • Outward referrals to Orthopaedic/Spinal Surgeon 13%
  • Rheumatology assessment/blood test 8%
  • Cortisone injections 4%
  • Densitometry 4%
  • Podiatry 2%
  • MRI Scans 6%
